Arenal, Electa. "Women in the Oaxaca Teachers' Strike and Citizens' Uprising." Feminist Studies 33(2007): 107-119.

This scholarly journal article specifically deals with the Oaxaca teachers’ strike, highlighting women’s role in the events.  It touches on the ways in which women have utilized the media, spreading the news of their struggles worldwide.  One weakness of this article is that it takes a while for the author to discuss her main point. The article is credible because it includes cited footnotes and the author’s credentials are given.

Daria, James. Telephone Interview. 10 Dec 2007.

James Daria is an independent journalist with first-hand experience of Oaxacan conditions. He has written for various newspapers such as Narco News and The Indypendent. He and other journalists were arrested in May 2006 in Oaxaca for their involvement in the teacher’s strike coverage. He is currently a field organizer for the Farm Labor Organizing Committee. He has lived in Oaxaca and has directly experienced and captured these events on film.

Gibler, John. "Oaxaca Uprising." New Politics 11(2007): 56-63.

This journal article addresses the struggle between the state and the people of Oaxaca in recent years.  It gives background information about Oaxaca, the information for the APPO, and important events that led to the uprising.  We believe this article to be trustworthy because it was found in a scholarly journal about politics.  Information and credentials about the author are given.

Gilly, Adolfo. "Atenco: Never Again." The Narco News Bulletin. 28 Jun 2006. Narco News. 11 Dec 2007 <http://www.narconews.com/Issue42/article1938.html>.

Narco News is a popular party news source. Articles from this website are untainted by the government's views. We were referred to this website by James Daria, one of our interview participants. This source is exceptionally credible since it seeks to provide the most accurate information about issues occurring in Mexico.

McKinley, James C.. "Oaxaca Teachers Strike Escalates into Political Crises." SFGate. 24 Aug 2006. San Fransisco Gate. 29 Oct 2007<http://www.sfgate.com/cgibin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2006/08/24/MNGDNKNVVR1.DTL&type=politics>.

This article points out the lack of government funding and support in general to the
educational system in Oaxaca, Mexico.  Due to the lack of aid from the government
teachers and other citizens decided to launch and uprising.  This article is credible
since it comes from a local New York newspaper and it directly pertains to our chosen topic.  One weakness of this article is that is does not list the credentials of the author.

Murphy, Arthur, and Alex Stepick. Social Inequality in Oaxaca: A History of Resistance and Change. 1st ed. Philadelphia: Temple University Press, 1991.

The two authors of this book have spent over three decades doing research on Oaxaca. Therefore, we believe them to be a credible source since they are well-informed of the conditions there. This book discusses the overall inequality experienced by the indigenous people, with a focus on social inequality.

Pelzer, Tim. "Reports: gov’t repression in Oaxaca continues." People's Weekly World. 14 004 2007. 12 Dec 2007 <http://www.pww.org/article/articleview/10893/1/367>

This article comes from a world newspaper. It seems to be unbiased as the author uses terms such as, "allegedly corrupt government" and "a group reported." He does not present the material as if it were his own opinion. This source discusses police brutality and overall mistreatment of the citizens of Oaxaca.

Robinson, Dr. Ian. Personal Interview. 10 Dec 2007.

Professor Ian Robinson received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University. He also received his M. Phil. in Politics from Oxford University and a B.A. in Political Studies from Queen’s University. Professor Robinson is currently a lecturer at the University of Michigan in the Department of Sociology and Residential College, as well as a Research Scientist for the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations. He has taken trips to Oaxaca with students so he is a credible source because he has first-hand experience.

Stephen, Lynn. "We are brown, we are short, we are fat...We are the face of Oaxaca: Women Leaders in the Oaxaca Rebellion." Socialism and Democracy. 21(2007): 97-114.

This article focuses on the roles women played in the social reform movement in Oaxaca. They have been key to the revolution in many ways through their overtake of the media and protests. We retrieved this from a scholarly journal so we trust it to be accurate. The author's affiliation is given with numerous footnotes and references, ensuring us that it is a credible source.

Unknown. "Asamblea Popular de los Pueblos de Oaxaca." Wikipedia. 08 Dec 2007. Wikipedia. 10 Dec 2007 <http://www.wikipedia.org>.

Wikipedia a free encyclopedia in which experts in certain fields contribute their knowledge to the general public. This page summarized the APPO and how they were formed. This site may not be the most credible of our sources since anyone can contribute to it. However, the information we gained seems to be consistent with our other information regarding the APPO.

Unknown. "Radio Planton in Oaxaca." Alive in Mexico. 20 Jul 2007. Alive in Mexico. 9 Dec 2007 <http://www.aliveinmexico.org/video/2007/07/20/radio-planton-in-oaxaca/ >.

This was a personal blog from an experienced participant of Radio Planton. We feel this is a credible source because first-hand experience is always helpful in viewing the entire perspective.
