Professor Ian Robinson received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University. He also received his M. Phil. in Politics from Oxford University and a B.A. in Political Studies from Queen’s University. He has had numerous experiences as a professor and researcher and has experience in positions related to the government. He is involved in many research projects and has published numerous articles that have appeared in scholarly journals as well as books. Professor Robinson is currently a lecturer at the University of Michigan in the Department of Sociology and Residential College, as well as a Research Scientist for the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations. He was a member of tri-national research team (Graciela Bensusán and Bodil Damgaard, FLACSO, Mexico City; Maria Lorena Cook, Cornell University; Gregor Murray, University of  Montreal) investigating the impact of neoliberal economic integration on the labor movements of Canada, the United States, and Mexico. He received a grant from the University of Michigan to develop and implement a new field study course on the struggles for democracy in Mexico and is well versed in issues of equality and liberalization of Mexico.

James Daria is an independent journalist with first-hand experience of Oaxacan conditions. He has written for various newspapers such as Narco News and The Indypendent. He and other journalists were arrested in May 2006 in Oaxaca for their involvement in the teacher’s strike coverage. He is currently a field organizer for the Farm Labor Organizing Committee.
