Sandra Snow is Assistant Professor in the School of Music at the University of Michigan with appointments in choral music education and conducting. She conducts the University Choir, Women’s Glee Club, and teaches undergraduate conducting. In the area of teacher training, she teaches a pedagogy course in choral methods and materials, observes choral music education majors in the field, and organizes an internship program in partnership with area schools. As a member of the graduate faculty, Dr. Snow serves on dissertation committees in both Ph.D. and DMA programs and trains Graduate Student Instructors in student-teaching observation. Reflecting her commitment to young singers, Dr. Snow conducts the Michigan Youth Women’s Chorale, an auditioned choir of high school women from across Michigan. Summer teaching includes the Summer Arts Institute at the University of Michigan for middle school students as well as teacher workshops for professional development in areas such as conductor and teacher training. Dr. Snow has considerable experience with young singers, as Music Director of the Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus and Founder and Music Director of the Carolina Children’s Chorus. Ensembles under her direction have been awarded a variety of grant money, including the National Endowment for the Arts in recognition of outstanding programming and educational opportunities for children. In demand as a guest conductor and clinician, Dr. Snow conducts honor choirs, all-state choirs, festivals, workshops, and clinics across the U.S. and Canada. She is a founding member of the Association for Choral Music Education and is a member of the faculty for summer certification courses and the annual Choral Music Experience Institute. This year, Dr. Snow will conduct honors choirs, all-state choirs and choral workshops in Michigan, Illinois, North Carolina, New York, Florida, and Canada. This summer, Dr. Snow will join the faculty of the Choral Music Experience Institute for Teacher Training in Ireland. Dr. Snow edits the middle school choral series, Building Bridges, for Boosey & Hawkes and recently coauthored a chapter on the choral classroom in the revised Dimension of Musical Learning and Teaching, published by MENC: The National Association for Music Education. Dr. Snow actively serves the choral profession, most recently completing a term as Central Division Repertoire and Standards chair for Women’s Choirs in the American Choral Director’s Association. Prior to her appointment at the University of Michigan, Dr. Snow was Director of Choral Programs at Northern Illinois University where she directed undergraduate and graduate choral and conducting programs.
