Defending Liberty
Since 1920, the ACLU has defended and advanced the principles of the Bill of Rights. If the rights of society's most vulnerable members are denied, everybody's rights are imperiled. With this in mind, the ACLU has provided education, outreach, litigation, and political advocacy as a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization since its inception, standing guard against any violation of Constitutional rights.
The ACLU on Campus
As a campus organization, the ACLU is invested in educating and engaging the University of Michigan community. We promote respect for individual rights on campus, and expose threats to civil liberties on the national level. We collaborate with a variety of student groups, and we remain politically active but nonpartisan.

Tell the State Legislature: No Back-Door Real ID
Despite the State House's rejection of the federal Real ID Act in late October, Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land is trying to sneak in Real ID through the back door.
The Secretary of State's Office announced yesterday the creation of two new identification cards that purport to enhance the security of Michigan driver's licenses. In reality, these licenses will make Michigan ID's a prime target for identity thieves by complying with the invasive and unnecessary Real ID Act.
