F.A.Q.
How do I become an official registered student affiliate member?
Register online at the official ACS registration site (Click Here)!
Help! I don't understand the online registration process!
Email Andrew Rasmussen (andyras@umich.edu) for assistance.
What type of member do I register as?
As an undergraduate student majoring or interested in chemistry, you should register as a Student Affiliate member. Benefits of the student membership include a special discount on dues and on subscription prices.
Is it true that we can get reimbursed for our first year of membership?
That is correct! The first year of membership will be reimbursed to you. You must register as a student affiliate in order to receive reimbursement. You may also choose to be reimbursed for a year's subscription to Chemical and Engineering News! Email Andrew Rasmussen (andyras@umich.edu) for more information. You will need to provide your membership number as well as some other information to prove your membership status.
What information do I need to send to Stephen or Andrew?
* Your Name (full name, as it appears on your membership card)
* Membership Number (the 7-digit number starting with a 2, which can be found on your membership card and on the address label of your magazine, if you subscribed to the magazine).
*Whether or not you subscribed to C&E News when you joined
*A mailing address, to which we can send the check in the event that Andrew, Stephen or Paul are unable to give it to you in person
What's my Membership number?
The member number is a totally distinct number from the application number that you get immediately when you sign up. The member number will arrive by mail in a big packet of information, after your membership is approved.
Why should I register as an ACS student affiliate?
Last year, we attended the national meeting in Chicago and learned about current research in various chemical fields. We plan to attend upcoming meetings as well, and it is cheaper to pay dues and the discounted price for admission than to pay the price for admission to the meeting without membership. Plus, you will be reimbursed for your first year, so give it a try! You have nothing to lose! Also, last year, the seven student affiliates who attended the meeting in Chicago received reimbursement for their discounted admission from the U of M Chemistry department.
