ARAB-AMERICAN
STUDENT
ACTIVISM CONFERENCE
I. WHY A BID FOR
THE CONFERENCE?
To guarantee the continuity
of the AASA conference, in the spirit of promoting Arab-American
student activism on college campuses, and recognizing the power
of student activism to advance the Arab-American community and
to serve the community at large.
- ORGANIZATIONAL GOALS OF THE CONFERENCE
- To organize
Arab-American students around issues pertinent to the Arab-American
community, and that is particularly in need of student input.
- To educate and empower leaders of various Arab-American student
organizations
- To make the surrounding community aware of local student
activists
- To create and solidify campus and community relations for
the hosting student organization
- To make strides to increase the efficacy of student activists
- To reinforce a national Arab-American student network to
increase the power of student activists within the Arab-American
community and throughout the country
- ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
FOR THE CONFERENCE
- The conference
is to beheld at a 2 or 4 year university
- The hosting student organization must demonstrate a minimum
of one year of activity on their respective campus
- To demonstrate a commitment and ability to fulfill the aforementioned
goals
- The hosting student organization should agree to pass on
the conference to a different Arab-American student organization,
following a bidding policy similar to that of the 2000 Arab-American
student activism conference, and including 2 representatives
from the University of Michigan.**

Note: It is our vision that each successive committee will include
at least one representative from previous years organizers,
such that the decision-making process will be more democratic
and inclusive as the conference progresses.
- PROPOSALS SHOULD
INCLUDE
- Statement
of purpose
- A theme and schedule of events, including a concise description
of how these relate to the goals of the conference
- A proposed budget and potential funding resources at the
university of and surrounding community (NOTE:
budget should be constructed such that the event will be VERY
low cost to participants in order to insure accessibility of
the conference to all students)
- A summary of the facilities
and logistical details (ie, building where this is to be held,
possible accommodations, transportation for participants, etc.)
- A summary of the recent activity of the student organization
(via fliers, clippings from campus newspapers, descriptions of
events, etc.)
- A prepared 5-10 minute presentation at the Arab-American
Student Activism Conference
