What is Rush?????

Rush is the term for our recruitment process. The goal of Fraternity Rush Period is to provide information to everyone who makes an effort to learn about us. Rush Events are setup for the interested men who want to meet the brotherhood of Alpha Delta Phi (A-D-Phi) and also for the brothers to get a chance to get to know some of you a little better.

In our Rush Section we will address commonly asked questions, the benefits of the joining the Greek System, the benefits of becoming an Alpha Delt, and present you with our Rush Calendar of Events. Below are some questions to ask during Rush to see if the house you’re at is for you… We are looking forward to meeting you!

Good Rush Questions…

How are you guys in Academics?  The real reason you’re at Michigan is to get an education. Chances are that being in a Greek house will improve your educational experience, but some houses might not be very helpful. Take a look at their library, study areas, and location on campus in relation to other good study places.  Another good thing to take into consideration is their scholarship programs, how much they offer every semester , every year, and how much is available through their National Organization.

How about Sports?    Most Fraternities participate in Intramural (IM) Sports on campus. While this is not the true measure of a fraternity, it will give you some insight on how the house works as a team, how determined they are, and how physically fit they are.

What will be required of me as a Pledge?     Pledge is the term for a man who is just received a bid and is going through the educational period with the fraternity before they become brothers. This questions is huge. While most houses do not haze their members, No house will tell you they do.  There are different things that are expected of you, and it varies from fraternity to fraternity, so find out!  Most houses require a meeting once a week, with social events being mandatory but they may ask for your help in setup, cleanup, organization, and risk management of the events. Being part of a diverse team where you are put in charge of something will help you appreciate the bigger picture of what joining a fraternity is all about.

The Big Question – Money ???      There are many ways a house will cover up this issue or sneak it by you. Make sure you know you get an EXACT amount. Some houses will have a separate “house fee” and “social fee,” and almost all have a fee for being initiated and pledging that goes to their Nationals. REMEMBER FIND OUT EXACT AMOUNTS.
