  • Learn more about the issue through AMSA’s extensive Web-based educational materials.
  • Work with your AMSA chapter to plan events on universal health care for your community.
  • Become a member of AMSA’s Universal Health Care task force and help shape AMSA’s policy and action for the future.
  • Write a letter to your Congressperson on the issue.
  • Participate in leadership training activities: AMSA’s Universal Health Care Political Leadership Institute and the “Seacouver” Study Tour take place in the Fall and Winter.

Fighting for Universal Health Care
To mobilize members in state and national coalitions to advocate for a health care reform process that involves sequential reform and a single-payer universal health care system.

The Issue: The United States is the only industrialized nation in the world that does not guarantee health care to all of its citizens. Current attempts at health care reform in this country only seem to have worsened the problem. AMSA believes that universal health care is long overdue.

AMSA’s Vision: AMSA strives to empower students with knowledge about our current health care system and the resources to create positive change at the local, state and national levels. AMSA envisions a reform process that involves sequential reform and a move to a single-payer universal health care system.
