Co-sponsored by the ASU School of International Letters and Cultures and ASU Confucius Institute, the 2012 meeting of the American Oriental Society Western Branch will take place in Scottsdale, Arizona on November 2 and 3, 2012. All AOS members are cordially invited and enthusiastically encouraged to attend and to present papers.* We recommend registering as early as you can, and by Wednesday, September 5th at the latest, to:

*YOU MUST BE A MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN ORIENTAL SOCIETY TO PRESENT A PAPER AT THE CONFERENCE. Membership information is available in all issues of the Journal of the American Oriental Society, as well as at the American Oriental Society website: http://www.umich.edu/~aos.
Accepted papers will be allotted up to 20 minutes for presentation, followed by approximately 10 minutes for discussion. There will be no designated “discussant” for any panel. You should receive the final program by the end of September.
All panels, as well as the business meeting, reception and banquet, will be held at the Hotel Valley Ho/ www.hotelvalleyho.com, 6850 E. Main Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85251.

Dinner will be served in the ballroom of Hotel Valley Ho. Near the conclusion of the banquet, Professor Michael Nylan of the University of California, Berkeley will give the 2012 banquet address. Please confirm your preferred dinner entrée choice on the registration form.
ACCOMMODATIONS: Hotel Valley Ho offers conference attendees a preferred rate of $169/night for its Signature Guestrooms single/double occupancy (off its current published rate of $289). All the guestrooms feature 32 inch HD LCD televisions, pillow-top mattresses with European linens, separate showers and soaking tubs, floor-to-ceiling windows and private patios or balconies. 24 hour room service and complimentary access to its fitness center and business center are offered! Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites in Scottsdale Old Town, 3131 North Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85251 (http://www.hiexpress.com/hotels/us/en/scottsdale/phxsr/hoteldetail) Situated in the heart of downtown Scottsdale, this hotel is located near all the best attractions in Scottsdale. The hotel’s facilities include complimentary amenities such as an area shuttle, hot breakfast and internet access.
A Google search will show numerous other hotels in the immediate area, including some that may be less expensive. Please remember that November is the high season in Arizona, and Scottsdale is a weekend tourist destination. If you wait until just before the meeting to book a hotel, rooms will be hard to find and prices will be significantly higher.
TRAVEL FROM AIRPORTS: From Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX): The Hotel Valley Ho is only a 15 minute drive from the airport. Taxi fare from the airport to Hotel Valley Ho is roughly $22 one-way. The fare for shuttles is around $18.
November is usually a delightful time in Arizona, with clear skies and daytime highs in the 70s or low 80s, nighttime lows in the 50s or 60s. This can vary of course, so please check weather forecasts before departure.
