Graduate Student Award for Travel to the 2014 Annual Meeting
The American Oriental Society will award funds to support graduate students' travel and lodging expenses for attending the Annual Meeting in Phoenix AZ. Awards are made competitively. The AOS Graduate Student Award Fund is supported by contributions from the membership and matching funds from the Society's general fund. Currently, a maximum of US$400 is available for reimbursement to each successful applicant.
To be considered for the award of support funds, a graduate student must be a current member of the American Oriental Society, have presented a paper at the most recent annual meeting and paid meeting registration fees, and submit an application letter to the Office of the Secretary. Include the following documentation with the application: 1. original travel and lodging expense receipts, or clean copies; 2. valid postal address of the applicant; 3. social security number; and 4. copy of a valid and current student identification. No award can be made without this important information. Application letters and supporting documentation must be submitted, either by email (email@example.com) with attached expense documentation or by post to the AOS Office within a month of the last day of the meeting. Applications will be reviewed and awards made to qualifying graduate students within a month of the deadline of receipt of applications. The deadline for receipt of applications is 17 April 2014, after which no additional applications will be accepted.
The AOS will not reimburse expenses for lodging arranged at non-conference hotels.
The Section Chairs will review and rank papers presented by graduate students. The authors of those judged to be of the highest quality will receive priority for the award of funds in case the total funds to be awarded to all applicants exceed $10,000.
NOTE: Graduate students who expect to apply for Graduate Student Award Fund support MUST indicate their intention on the Announcement of Communication Form. Only those applicants who so indicate in advance on the form will be eligible to compete for the award of funds.
Award reimbursements will be mailed to successful applicants in mid- to late May 2014.
