CALL FOR PAPERS
2013 MEETING OF THE AMERICAN ORIENTAL SOCIETY MIDDLE WEST BRANCH/ASOR

The meeting will be held Friday to Sunday Feb. 8-10.

The theme of the meeting is "Priestesses and Holy Women in the ANE". The plenary session (Friday evening) will consist of papers by Gary Beckman (Univ. of Michigan and emeritus president of the AOS) "Hittite Priestesses and Female Magical Experts"; JoAnn Scurlock (Elmhurst College) "Qadishtu and Qadishah: Whores or Holy Women" and Lisa Marie Belz (Loyola Univ. of Chicago) on "Women Members of the Association(s): Behind the Qumran Scrolls".

We would like to receive abstracts for papers for AOS or ASOR sessions on Saturday and perhaps Sunday either on the theme, or any other topic of relevance to AOS or ASOR. Advanced students are strongly encouraged to submit abstracts. All are encouraged to try out papers for the national meetings of AOS and or ASOR. Submit abstracts, preferably electronically, to JoAnn Scurlock (joanns@net.elmhurst.edu and please send a second copy (cc:) to r-beal@uchicago.edu, to be sure I get it). We really would like to get your abstracts by Dec. 15, so please don't dally!

This meeting is held in conjunction with the Midwest SBL. Go to their website for registration forms and other information (to be posted shortly) www.sbl-site.org/meetings/rm_midwest.aspx

The meeting will take place at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois, easily reachable just off I-57, about 1 hour south of Chicago. There are motels in Bourbonnais and shuttle services from O'Hare and probably Midway airports.

The plenary session will be Friday evening, beginning at 7PM. The other AOS/ASOR sessions be Saturday, lapping on till noon on Sunday, depending on how many of you submit papers. The banquet will be Saturday evening, at which there will be the informative and usually entertaining as well presidential speech.

A note for those who attended the 2011 meeting, the plenary and AOS papers from that meeting are awaiting publication at Eisenbrauns.

Hope to see you all. JoAnn Scurlock
(Secretary/Treasurer of Middle West AOS/ASOR ).
