Personal

Andreas was born in New Jersey of European parents (his father is from Germany and his mother from Denmark) and moved to Ohio when he was young. He spent a year in Stralsund, in the former East Germany, during his senior year of high school. He enjoyed four years at Oberlin College, where he majored in Economics and Mathematics and sat on the Student Senate. He then moved to Washington, D.C. for two years, where he worked at the Urban Institute in education policy analysis. A dedicated alum, he sat on the Oberlin College Board of Trustees for three years after graduation. He moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan to start graduate school, where he met his charming fiancee. During his time in Michigan, he explored Public Finance, Economic History, Complex Systems, and obviously Microeconomic Theory, Game Theory, and Decision Theory. During this, the final year of his PhD, he is also teaching micro theory at Oberlin College, his alma mater.

He plays guitar, harmonica, and sings. He has played harmonica (cross harp and straight) for over eighteen years, and proudly played with Ann Arbor's premier Economics rock band The Solonators. He is an avid music listener, avid reader, enjoys cooking, and is something of a computer geek: he codes Perl, bash scripts, Java (including Repast), and C.
