This document covers AW 1.0 - 2.0 for Data Base and 1.2 - 2.0 for
Spreadsheet.
 
AppleWorks Multiple Disk Save Rescue Documentation
 
This routine was designed to work with AppleWorks Modified with
the Applied Engineering 'Super AppleWorks Desktop Expander TM'.
Best results will be obtained by using AppleWorks 1.2 or higher.
It will not work on the //GS. The Control-Reset combination
resets some code in the stack in the microprocessor, not allowing
AppleWorks to be reset.

*** Special Note ***
 
Just a reminder, this is not intended to be a replacement for
keeping backups of your data. Also, this procedure does not
always work the first time, you may need to try this a couple of
times to get it to work.
 
If you have a NON-ENHANCED //e you must type all of the letters
in the following code in UPPER CASE. If you type it in lower case
the code will not work. //c owners do not have to worry about
UPPER or lower case.
 
Make sure you do not have any other modifications installed on
your AppleWorks. Especially RESET.SYSTEM or TimeOut. These
program add a reset trap to AppleWorks and will not let you reset
to the monitor.
 
Please make sure you have plenty of GOOD formatted disks handy
before starting this procedure. All of the disks you formatted
MUST have the SAME VOLUME NAME!
 
The following routine(s) will help you to recover most of a file
that has been saved as part of a Multiple Disk File where one of
the disks has been damaged. This will primarily be useful for
those occasions when the 2nd or 3rd disk in a series has been
damaged, and you need to recover the data from the first disk(s)
in the series. This is NOT a substitue for keeping BACKUPS of
your data. In the case of a physically damaged disk chances of
recovering data fromthe da maged disk are slim. Please note there
is a different routine for the different versions of AppleWorks.
 
In order for this routine to work the Reset Vector must point to
the Monitor. To ensure this you must cold-boot AppleWorks
directly from a floppy disk. If you are using a hard disk or 3.5
UniDisk with any type of program selector (such as Catalyst or
Mouse Desk) you MUST exit to basic first and type the following:
 
 
    ]CALL -151                      (This gets you into the Monitor)
 
    *3F2: 59 FF 5A                  (this changes reset vector)
 
    *-/volume.name/APLWORKS.SYSTEM  (/volume.name/ = location of AppleWorks)
 
Once you are into AppleWorks, load your file like normal, loading
as many of the disk(s) that you can onto your AppleWorks desktop.
When you get the 'Segmented Desktop File' message hit Ctrl-Reset.
 
DO NOT PRESS EITHER THE CLOSED OR OPEN APPLE KEYS, AS THIS WILL
SCREW UP EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE TO THIS POINT.
 
You should now be looking at a 40 col screen full of garbage with
an asterisk for a prompt '*'.
 
From this point you need to refer to the section for your version
of AppleWorks. The information provided here supports AppleWorks
1.0 through 1.3 for data base files and AppleWorks 1.2 and 1.3
for Spreadsheet files.
