Thus the file linguistics/linguist.list/volume.5/no.701-750 contains exactly what you'd expect. /software and /fonts are organized into directories by operating system, with branches for DOS and Macintosh, and for fonts, Windows as well. /texts is the catchall category; it consists of the subdirectories /texts/biblio, /texts/lexica (containing word lists), /texts/papers (containing offprints, and /texts/papers/available, containing publication lists), /texts/syllabi (containing the COSWL syllabus collection), and /texts/indices (containing the Levin verb index) /celtling is a directory maintained as an online service to the Association for Celtic Linguistics. ------------------------------------------------------- We solicit submissions in any of these categories; and, we solicit suggestions about more categories. If you want to submit anything to be placed on the archives... /uploads is a directory that can be written to by any user, even an anonymous one. It's for submitting files (with the FTP "put" command) that are intended to be placed on the archives. NOTE: *Anyone* who puts *any* file in the /uploads directory MUST send e_mail about it, clearly identifying what it is and who's responsible for it, to: linguistics-archivists@archive.umich.edu Nothing will be put on the archives without attribution and testing. This directory (/linguistics) contains the following files: general-purpose information files: 00index.txt this file 00readme.txt a general description of the archives, duplicating much of this information a *large* general guide to Internet use: bigdummysguidetotheinternet 3 utility programs for de-archiving: mac.dearchiver a Mac de-archiving program that will extract files from both Stuffit (.sit) and Compact Pro (.cpt) archives. Download it as text; it needs to be de-Binhexed. After you've got it, it will do your de-Binhexing for you. zip.exe a DOS shareware program that will create and extract ZIPfile (.zip) archives. Download it it BINARY; when you run it, it will unpack itself into several programs and documentation. unzip.cpt.hqx a Mac de-archiving program that will read and unpack ZIPfiles, from DOS or anywhere else. Download it as text; it needs to be de-archived with mac.dearchiver. LSA-specific information files: LSA.email.list a list of email address of LSA members LSA.style.sheet the LSA style sheet NOTE that the last two file names contain capital letters, which *must* be typed as capitals.
