Fixing the DoveFax FaxPrint file for system 7

Fellow system 7 user,
  As you may have discovered, the current (version 1.1.1) FaxPrint driver corrupts the chooser window when you attempt to use it to send a fax. The window become truncated to show the upperleft corner only, with consequent loss of control over various fax settings. In addition the chooser become unusable for other purposes.
  From a series of messages originating on America On Line in the Dove Fax modem support section from dates 5/13/91 - 6/1/91 a fix has been descirbed. Chris Chow posted a method utilizing resEdit to alter the PACK resource ID = 4096 SIZE = 4946 bytes which will alter the way the FaxPrint file affects the SizeWindow() trap. (Chris credits another user with this, with an origin on USENET).
  This requires the use of resEdit. I used version 2.1. 
Here follow instructions:
 
1)  MAKE A COPY of FaxPrint. (always a good idea when planning to alter file
    resources!)
2)  Launch resEdit and open FaxPrint. 
3)  Find the resource entitle PACK and open it. 
4)  Open ID = -4096 SIZE = 4946 bytes "JEFFPACK" (double click on this item)
5)  Use the [F] find offset option of resEdit's menu to find these entries:

000BB8     5A40  3D40  FFFA  2F04
000BC0     2F2E  FFF8  1F3C  0001
000BC8     A91D  4CDF  18F0  4E5E
 
This will highlight the numbers 2F (hexadecimal) in the 5th column, first row.  
Select 2F04 (highlight it.)

6)  Enter 4E71 in place of 2F04. Copy 4E71 (for pasting again later.)
7)  In the next row, second column you should see 2F2E. (if you don't you are in
    the wrong location, so close the whole file, don't save changes, and start
    over!)
8)  Select 2F2E and paste in 4E71.
9)  Do the same thing for the next 4 entries: FFF8 (3rd column),
                                              1F3C (4th column),
                                              0001 (5th column),
                                              A91D (2nd column, next row down)

10) After making these changes you should see the following:

000BB8     5A40  3D40  FFFA  4E71
000BC0     4E71  4E71  4E71  4E71
000BC8     4E71  4CDF  18F0  4E5E

11) Okay? Now close the windows and SAVE the changes to FaxPrint. 

12) Place FaxMonitor and FaxPrint (the altered version) in the open system  
    folder window. (If you just drag them to the system folder icon system 7 lets you either move them to the extensions folder or cancel the move.)

13) Restart your Mac. You should see the DoveFax INIT appear and indicate FAX
    (or DATA if that's the way you last left it.)

14) Okay! Now you can use the system 7 chooser, the DoveFax software, and your DoveFax as before. (This assumes that they were working for you before you installed system 7!)
