Welcome to the University of Michigan Physics Archive. These archives are at archive.umich.edu [141.211.164.153] in the /physics directory. Please use the symbolic internet address if you can since the archives move occasionally. --- what's here --- There is a collection of public domain, freeware, shareware, and other files, including both physics software, and software that physicists use. An attempt is made to orthogonalize the directories according to the following example. The gnuplot source can be compiled for a number of machines. It is physically archived here in the unix directory, but also appears via links in the amiga, msdos, next, and sun directories. The idea is that everything that will run on the Amiga, for example, will appear in the amiga directory. Except that programs for TeX, Maple, and Mathematica, which are basically text format and run on all machines, appear only in their own directories. Here is what you will see in archive/physics: 00readme.txt this file amiga Amiga software atari Atari software maple Maple programs for physics mathematica Mathematica programs for physics mac (unused so far) msdos MSDOS software next NeXT software sun Sun software schip Schoonschip software for all available machines tex TeX macro packages, etc., used by physicists unix generic UNIX software --- ftp access --- You can use ftp to get to these archives (anonymous login, any password). There are currently no restrictions, but for load management reasons limits may be imposed in the future. --- afs access --- If you are using AFS (Andrew File System) you can get to this archive directory with OA cd /afs/umich.edu/group/itd/archive/physics If you are already in the University of Michigan AFS cell, you can cd ~archive/physics --- email access --- Email access is planned, but not yet available. --- work in progress --- These archives are not static and there is constant work being done to improve them: additional content, better access, more documentation, better indexing, etc. Suggestions are welcome. --- contacting a human --- Work on these archives is done as a volunteer effort. And while my time is necessarily limited so a response may be delayed, please contact me with questions, suggestions, submissions, or praise.
