GETTING INVOLVED
Basement Arts is NOT just for theater majors! Anyone
affiliated with the University of Michigan is free to take part in
our productions.
How to Audition
Auditions to perform in Basement Arts productions are held on a show to show basis. To be informed of upcoming auditions, sign up to be on our audition mailing list by emailing basement@umich.edu with the subject line "AUDITION". If you prefer not to be emailed, audition information is available a week prior to each audition on the call board outside of Studio 1 and on our website Auditions page.
How to Direct
Basement Arts produces 5-9 student directed productions each
semester. Interested directors have the opportunity to propose any
play of musical (professionally or student written) to the Basement
Board. Proposal forms are available at the end of each semester for
the upcoming semester's season. Also, from time to time we accept
proposals at the beginning of the semester for remaining slots in the
season. Once a proposal is turned in, the director must sign up for
an interview to present his/her proposal to the board. Proposal
forms are available approximately three weeks before they are due on
this website or outside of Studio 1. To be informed when
proposals are coming up, please email basement@umich.edu with
the subject line "DIRECT".
Crew/Designers
We are always looking for interested designers and crew to help with
our productions. This can range from set/lighting/costume designing,
set constructing, light hanging/focussing, etc. All interested can
help as much or as little as they wish and only minimal experience is
recommended. To be informed of crew requests for our productions,
please join our mailing list by emailing basement@umich.edu with the subject line "CREW".
