Today’s matchup with Wisconsin marks the next step in Michigan’s
journey to finish the season strong and pick up an NCAA bid. However,
the Maize and Blue and the Rage face what is likely the toughest
piece of the puzzle today in the Wisconsin Badgers, who defeated
Michigan by 11 back in January. The Badgers are hungry for a win
after a tough loss at Illinois on Wednesday, and our own Wolverines
are hungry to extend their streak to two after pouncing Penn State
76-53 four nights ago. We’ve had good showings against Wisconsin
in this arena recently, and it’s our job to help the team
to a win today. GO BLUE!
Here is the starting lineup for the Wisconsin Badgers (17-5, 8-3
Big Ten Conference):
12 Boo Wade 6’3” G Has his name tattooed on his neck;
real name is Maurice
21 Andreas Helmigk 6’9” C At 24, he’s one of
the Big Ten’s oldest; Scored 0 vs. Illinois on Wed.
24 Freddie Owens 6’2” G/F Says that he “sleeps
all the time” and also claims to be the team’s funniest
guy
34 Devin Harris 6’3” G This All-Big Ten performer has
averaged a meager 5.5 ppg in 28 minutes per game in his two starts
in Ann Arbor
54 Mike Wilkinson 6’8” F The former Wisconsin Mr. Basketball
claims that he’ll be on the farm in ten years using what he
learned in Dairy Science, his favorite class
Coach Bo Ryan 3 books and 5 instructional videos still don’t
make Mr. Ryan the top Bo in Ann Arbor this afternoon
Ladies and gentlemen, John Andrews: Freshman John Andrews scored
the first points of his Wolverine career with a buzzer-beating three-pointer
at Wisconsin on January 21.
Belt them out: The Maize Rage uses several specific chants or actions
for certain players, and we all need a refresher. Take note.
-- When Lester Abram (L.A.) enters the game, chant “Show-time!
Show-time! Show-time!”
-- When Dion Harris enters the game, do “Di-on Har-ris!”
(clap clap clap-clap-clap) to the rhythm of the old Chucky
Bailey cheer
-- If Horton hits a three-pointer, drop back in your seat violently
as if a bomb shook Crisler Arena – It’s the H-BOMB!
-- When our resident dunk specialist Brent Petway enters the lineup,
greet him with a chant of “Air Georgia!”
A softer side of Devin: While not being Wisconsin’s Mr. Everything,
Devin Harris likes to hang with his two best friends, Kelsey and
Kristin, and watch his favorite show, Lizzie McGuire. He’s
a big fan of Justin Timberlake also. Last Halloween, Devin got together
with the girls and carved pumpkins. How cute. One has to wonder
if Devin likes to hang with the rest of the team, or if he spends
all of his time elsewhere. “I watch a lot of chick flicks,”
said the junior.
Well, another chick flick viewer: Some more Badgers have recently
revealed their top interests. Clayton Hanson (#13), a junior guard,
“enjoys a good chick flick now and then.” Alando Tucker
(#42), a sophomore forward, is a huge fan of Britney, but he wouldn’t
dare show Miss Spears the “hairy knees and elbows” that
he said he’s ashamed of.
Hello, nation: Today’s game is being nationally broadcasted
on CBS. If getting airtime is your thing, make a move to the sides
and keep the side sections jumping today, because those are the
sections that the cameras see most often.
Jordan? Probably not: Kammron Taylor (#23), a freshman guard, chose
his number to emulate MJ. Kam’s averaging 1 a game right now.
Living like MJ? Not likely. Hey, at least he scored 77 during a
6th grade game back in the day.
