Privacy rules under the
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), apply to participants in certain types of health plans. The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1986 (COBRA) allows you to continue your coverage under certain health plans at your own expense after you terminate employment for any reason. The Benefits Office is required by HIPAA and COBRA legislation to provide these notices related to protections and privileges assured by these two federal laws.
