Amount of Coverage
Each staff member is insured for a principal sum equal to $50,000 or five
times annual salary, whichever is more, but the maximum for any person is $200,000.
"Salary" means the annual salary as defined by the Group Life Insurance
Program (exclusive of bonuses, overtime earnings, and non-University earnings) that
the staff member was receiving as of the date of the accident.
The total cost of all benefits paid for any one covered accident will not exceed
$4 million. If this limit does not allow a full benefit payment to each insured staff
member, each staff member's benefit will be prorated.
Those Covered
All members of the staff, full- and part-time, permanent and temporary, are automatically
covered as of date of employment. No applications are required.
Scope of Coverage
If injuries result in death or dismemberment within one year after the date of the accident
or you become permanently and totally disabled within 180 days after the accident, you may
be entitled to a benefit. The benefit will vary according to the type of loss and is
described in detail in the master contract.

serve as members of a crew in a private automobile and/or University bus, truck, or
automobile are extended coverage provided that the staff member spends no more than
50% of his/her work day in such vehicles.
Coverage off the Premises of the University
Staff members are covered on a 24-hour-per-day basis while traveling on official
University of Michigan business (excluding vacation and everyday travel to or from work).

buildings, etc.
