Competitive Bowling:
If you are interested in trying out for the University of Michigan competitive bowling (traveling) team, you are invited to team practice at Colonial Lanes on Mondays and Wednesdays 7:00-9:00 p.m. In order to be considered for a tournament team, a bowler must attend practice every week with minimal absences. While we of course strive to send our best bowlers to intercollegiate tournaments, regular attendance and participation are of utmost importance. Even if someone has the best average, he will not necessarily be selected for the team if his attendance record or attitude is poor.
The Michigan Bowling Club is a sanctioned team of the America's Heartland Intercollegiate Bowling Conference (AHIBC) and USBC Collegiate. We bowl in about 10 big tournaments a year, starting in late September. Other schools in the AHIBC include The University of Cincinnati, Kent State University, Oberlin College, Michigan State University, Ohio State University, The University of Toledo, and Saginaw Valley State University, among others.
All tournament travel costs are funded by members of the competitive team through dues, fundraisers, and 50/50 raffles. If you wish to bowl competitively, you must either contribute your share of effort to the fundraisers or pay for all of your tournament travel and registration expenses out of your pocket.
In February, recreational members of the Michigan Bowling Club are invited to participate in the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Intercollegiate Recreation Tournament. This is not a team event, but a recreational event... a tournament specifically designed for recreational bowlers! It's a great opportunity to bowl with students from other schools for fun, prizes, medals, and regional bragging rights.
