Bridge Club
We are a student organization that meets once or twice a week to play Bridge. We are open to all skill levels and will teach anyone, even if they have no prior experience in any card game. We are trying to promote the game of Bridge to the younger crowd, since it really is a great game and not just for people who are 70+, like many people think.
2011-2012 Officers
Zach Scherr, President (fall)
Max Glick, President (winter)
Membership
There are no fees or dues for the Bridge Club; membership is free. Travel for tournaments will include some out-of-pocket expenses.
Intercollegiate Bridge League
The School Bridge League recently spun off an Intercollegiate Bridge League. Starting in the winter semester of 2011, it held the first ever Intercollegiate Bridge Championships. The University of Michigan entered three teams in this online event, and we competed alongside 13 other schools across the United States. After a series of qualifying rounds, one Michigan team and five from other schools advanced to the quarterfinal round. That Michigan team came out ahead of competitors from Cornell and Brandeis to qualify for the semifinals. Commanding wins over the University of Chicago in the semifinals and the University of North Carolina in the finals left the University of Michigan team the winners of the inaugural Intercollegiate Bridge Championships!

Past Intercollegiate Tournament Highlights
Every year the Bridge Club participates in the National Collegiate Bridge Teams Championship, which is run by the ACBL (American Contract Bridge League). We field teams of 4 players and play in a qualifier online in February, from which teams advance and are given an all-expense paid trip to some city in the U.S. to compete against other colleges in bridge. Past U of M teams have had the opportunity to go to Palm Beach, Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, and New Orleans. We're now looking forward to competing in several events and the Nationals in Toronto in the summer of 2011. A recap of the past few years' events:
2010 (New Orleans): We qualified for the finals in New Orleans, where we finished in 5th place.
2009 (Washington, DC): A team of Michigan students qualified for Flight C of the Grand National Teams (a non-collegiate event) and won the tournament.
2008 (Las Vegas): We were the only school to qualify 2 teams for the finals in Las Vegas. The teams finished in 4th and 8th.
2005-2006 (Chicago): the U of M team won the tournament! There were 8 teams at the finals: Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Univeristy of Chicago, MIT, Princeton, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Cal Tech. We beat UCLA in the semifinals by 1 point and Princeton in the finals by 2 points. It was a great experience!
