In the Fall and Winter, this is a Work Study ONLY opportunity. For Spring and Summer, Work Study is preferred but not required. There are three different positions available in the Billiards Room:
Job Descriptions
Recreation Assistant I
(Entry Level) Students are responsible for staffing the desk in the Michigan Union Billiards & Games Room, which includes running the cash register, checking out equipment, helping to maintain the equipment and the room, answering questions about games, and advising users of rules, regulations, and procedures. Good customer service skills must be exercised. Desired qualifications include knowledge of billiards and pocket billiards games and board games, experience working a cash register and handling money, willingness to interact with many people, and enthusiasm about working in a recreational facility. Pay rate is $8.00 per hour.
Recreational Assistant II
Duties include all requirements for Recreational Assistant I, plus maintenance of equipment (specifically, re-tipping pool cues). Desired qualifications include experience in working with board games and pocket billiards games, knowledge of game rules and regulations, and skills in various recreational activities. This job provides the opportunity to develop time management, leadership, and interpersonal skills and experience some aspects of managing a business. One year of experience as a Recreational Assistant I or equivalent is required. Recreational Assistant IIs do the same jobs as Recreational Assistant I, but are also responsible for a weekly quota of tips during their shifts. Pay rate is $8.50 per hour.
