University of Michigan Poker Tournament of Champions
Each year in April, the Michigan Union Billiards Room hosts the University of Michigan Tournament of Champions (TOC). University of Michigan students can qualify for the TOC through a series of weekly tournaments starting in September, or through various charity events co-sponsored by the Billiards Room each year. The winner of the TOC receives a substantial prize ($100 or more), a commemorative medal, and his/her name on the "University of Michigan Poker Champion" plaque on the wall in the Billiards & Games Room.
TOC qualifying series format:
- A tournament takes place every week during the school year, generally on Monday nights
(see below for schedule and locations)
- Start time is 6:00 p.m.
- Entry is free.
- Winner receives $20 Munchie Money by "gentlemen's agreement."
- A random winner is chosen, but as a gentleman, he defers his prize to the actual winner.
- Each weekly winner also receives an invitation to the TOC in April 2012.
- Tournaments are open only to University of Michigan students who are currently registered for classes.
- Student organization charity events
- If your organization would like to host a charity poker tournament, contact Betsy at least 3 months in advance to discuss sponsorship and free room rental. There are state licensing requirements that take 6-8 week for approval, so unless you allow plenty of time, this can't happen.
- Weekly tournament participants also receive points for consistent performance in the top 8:
- Anyone who accumulates 25 points or more throughout the course of the season will also be invited.
- For details and to view the leaderboard standings, visit: http://sitemaker.umich.edu/umweeklypoker
- The Tournament Director reserves the right to invite additional players who are within range of 25 points.
- The Program Advisor reserves the right to invite additional players based on participation in other Billiards Room sponsored or UUAP sponsored poker events.
