Instructions for Biodiversity Fish Capsule on the Animal Diversity Website (ADW)

Choose a fish species by looking at the images here. Click on the name of the image and you will be taken to a page with the name of the species and its image. Write down, or copy to the clipboard the name of the species. If you have a favorite fish that you would like to write about and it is not on the site, see Dr. Fink.

Enter the workspace for Biology of Fishes on the ADW. For your first login, you will have to register for the site, so click on "new user." Follow the directions and select the class from the pulldown list. Once you have registered for the site, you can sign up for a species by selecting "new sign up." There will be a wishlist soon, but for now you can sign up by species name. You will have to acknowledge reading a document on plaigarism and will also have to give permission to publish your information on the web.

Once you have chosen your species, you can login any time you wish to work on the species capsule. Once you enter the "form" you will see section headings. Clicking on the "edit" button will open that part of the form, including a text box and a number of check boxes. At this time, it is best for you to write the information in your word processor and "CUT AND PASTE" the information into the form. When you have completed a form, click the "save" button. You can always return to the form and change the text or check boxes.

It is very important that you read the Guidelines for Contributors before you begin writing.

The first draft of your capsule is due October 29 . I will review them at that time and will give you comments for improvement, etc. The final version of the capsule must be complete by November 7.  Failure to meet these deadlines will influence your grade.
