ACBL

The American Contract Bridge League sanctions bridge games and issues masterpoints throughout North America; it sponsors numerous additional special events anually, including the North American Pairs, Grand National Teams, and North American College Bridge Contest; it publishes a monthly magazine called The Bulletin , and establishes the rules .

Districts

The ACBL divides North America into several districts. Michigan is part of District 12, which sponsors an annual week-long Sectional Tournaments at Clubs event.

Units

Each district is furher divided into units. Ann Arbor is part of Unit 137 (MBA, the Michigan Bridge Association); Detroit is part of Unit 203 (SOMBA, the SOuthern Michigan Bridge Association). These units each individually sponsor several events each year and also often hold jointly sponsored events; see the list of upcoming tournaments for some examples.
