Bridge Lessons
Our club sometimes offers free group lessons, including the
textbook and a t-shirt (t-shirts are dependent on having at
least eight
students complete the class). The lessons are sponsored by the ACBL and
follow Audrey Grant's ACBL Lesson Series.
Descriptions of the Lesson Series
- Club Series
- The Club Series lessons do not assume any previous knowledge of
bridge and focus primarily on developing a basic standard bidding
system.
- Diamond Series
- The Diamond Series lessons assume familiarity with the bidding
system developed in the Club series,
and focus primarily on beginning methods in declarer play.
- Heart Series
- The Heart Series lessons assume familiarity with the bidding system
and play techniques
developed in the Club and Diamond Series and focus primarily on defense.
- Spade Series
- The Spade Series lessons assume familiarity
with the standard bidding
system and play techniques developed in the Club, Diamond, and Heart Series,
and focus primarily on making the transition to duplicate play.
General Scheduling Information
In Winter 1997, we ran a Club Series and
a Diamond Series. In Winter 1998, we ran another Club Series. We will
run another Club Series in Fall 1998, followed by another Diamond Series.
Each series meets for two hours once a week for eight
weeks, with a ninth meeting set aside for a mini-tournament;
these meetings have generally been held on weekday evenings on central
campus. A typical meeting consists of one hour of instruction followed by
one hour of playing pre-dealt lesson hands.
The Fall 1998 Club Series will probably be held on Monday or Tuesday evenings
from 7 to 9, whichever is convenient for more students. They'll probably
start the week of September 21.
