IMPORTANT MARCH/APRIL DATES

  • March 26, 2011 HOOPS HOOPLA
  • April 12, 2011 April Monthly Mass Meeting
  • Presidential Welcome

    Hello!

My name is Ryanna Robinson and it is my distinct honor to serve as the 2010-2011 President of Black Volunteer Network (BVN). On behalf of Black Volunteer Network’s executive board, I would like to welcome you to our website.

BVN was founded at the University of Michigan in 1994, with a mission to uplift the campus and surrounding communities through service. Historically, BVN has volunteered at sites such The Ronald McDonald House, Sunrise Nursing Home, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. 15 years later, BVN continues to uphold the legacy to serve the community by expanding our service sites to entities including Hikone Community Center and Alternative Spring Break. With weekly site growth and the addition of large group volunteer sites, BVN hopes to offer students a diverse selection to identify appropriate service options.

Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s quote, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter,” this year, BVN has resolved to focus our efforts on change in the community. It is our intention to speak out against any discrimination or disparities within the community by addressing issues targeted at individuals and social groups. We plan to align our various events throughout the year with this theme to promote social justice and increase social awareness of these concerns. Ultimately, with passion, persistence and partnership, we hope to collaborate with other organizations throughout the community to create a more unified campus.  BVN welcomes participation in any of our weekly or large group sites, as well as our mass meetings which are held the 2nd Tuesday of every month.

Thank you for your interest in our organization. I am very excited about this upcoming year and effecting positive change on the community with you! Please browse the website for more information on upcoming events and any projects/committees you may find interesting. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at bvneboard10@umich.edu.
