Common Concerns
Alcohol and Other Drug Use
Counseling and Psychological Services can help students with alcohol and other drug-related concerns:
- Determining whether or not there is a need to change your drinking habits.
- Developing a plan to change your drinking (or using) patterns.
- Dealing with difficult feelings or situations that emerge when you attempt to stop drinking (or using).
- Coping with someone else's drinking, either here or at home.
- Services include individual counseling, group counseling, and a two-part assessment called ASAP (Assessment of Substance Abuse Patterns), all free of charge to students.
The ASAP offers you an opportunity to meet with a counselor and together closely examine your patterns of alcohol (or other drugs) use or abuse. Your counselor will assist you in making realistic decisions about your lifestyle around alcohol and/or drugs. These services are confidential. If necessary, we can provide a document that verifies your attendance but does not disclose any other information.
For more information about a class or longer program (e.g., court mandated alcohol programs), you can contact Spectrum at 734 973-1900. Spectrum is a community agency that focuses on prevention services and is located at 3879 Packard Rd in Ann Arbor.
Select any of the following topics for more information, or call CAPS at 764-8312.
