Introduction / Committed Relationships and University Life / Relationships with RoommatesRelationships Introduction
College life can introduce a student to a variety of relationships. Often, when one sees or hears the word "relationship" they may immediately think of an intimate, romantic relationship. This of course is only one description of the idea of "relationship." There are numerous relationships that can occur between non-romantic friends, roommates, family members, team members, student organization members, professors or teaching assistants, employers, etc. All these different types of relationships have the potential to be sources of joy, and nurture feelings of belonging and safety, but also can be sources of stress and conflict.
If you believe that it would be useful for you to talk to a professional counselor about your concerns or questions about any relationship issue, please come to CAPS at 3100 Michigan Union and make an appointment to meet with one of our staff counselors. Our multicultural and multidisciplinary staff members will be happy to assist you.
The following links will provide you with a brief look at some of these relationships and how they impact your life as a University of Michigan college student.
