Professional Staff
CAPS has a diverse staff with regard to race/ethnicity, country of origin, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, age, professional discipline, theoretical orientations and intervention approaches. We have clinical social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, post doctorate and post MSW fellows, graduate level psychology and social work interns and four support staff that all contribute to providing excellent mental health services for students.

- Interests include: multicultural counseling, Asian Pacific American/International concerns, eating disorders and body image, and family-of-origin concerns.
- Alice Brunner, Ph.D. (University of California, Berkeley)
- Interests Include: assisting students with life transitions, women's issues, trauma survivors, family-of-origin concerns.
- Amanda Byrnes, LLMSW (Dominican University) Case Manager
Case management at CAPS provides students with high quality referrals, coordination, and follow-up for mental health services both within and outside of the University. The Case Manager works collaboratively with students to attain resources that match students’ needs. Interests include: impact of community/systems on mental health; issues of power, privilege and identities; women’s issues and the feminist perspective; international service/aid/empowerment.
Dwaine Campbell, Ph.D. (Michigan State University)
Interests include: Multicultural counseling (esp. Black student concerns), men's issues, identity issues, academic performance concerns, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and family
- Donna Champine, MD (University of Michigan) Coordinator of Psychiatric Services
- Interests include evaluation and treatment of mood disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and ADHD, including medication management, as well as therapeutic interventions using supportive psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and stress management strategies. Research interests have included evaluation and treatment of prodromal psychosis, and ADHD.
- Hsiu-Lan Cheng, Ph.D. (University of Missouri-Columbia)
- Interests include: anxiety and depression concerns, stress management, mind-body concerns, mindfulness and psychotherapy, body image and eating disorders, family of origin issues, relationship concerns, multicultural counseling, and international student concerns. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
- LaReese Collins, Ph.D., LMSW, ACSW, BCD in Social Work and Psychology (University of Michigan)
- Interests include: Multicultural Counseling, anxiety and depression concerns, spiritual concerns, anger and conflict management, grief and loss, stress and stress management, academic skills training, alcohol and drug issues, family of origin concerns, men’s issues, relationship concerns , and sexual orientation issues.
- Rachel Crutchfield, LMSW (University of Michigan)
- Interests include: working with trauma, abuse and sexual assault/violence survivors; personality concerns; feminist and multicultural practice; self-esteem, identity and adjustment issues; eating/body image issues; relationship difficulties (couples and family-of-origin); depression.
- Jerome Dowis, Ed.D. (Indiana University)
Interests include: anxiety disorders, procrastination and related academic blocks such as performance anxiety and public speaking anxiety, special issues of graduate students.
Travis Fox, Psy.D. (Pacific University School of Professional Psychology)
Interests include: Veterans, men's issues, multicultural counseling, grief and loss, anxiety and depression, spirituality and existential concerns, identity development, relationship difficulties, and couples counseling
Daniel Goldstein, MSW (University of Kansas)
- Interests include: men’s issues, identity development, relationship issues (couples and family-of-origin), depression and anxiety concerns, spirituality and existential concerns, forgiveness, mindfulness, and mind-body connections/integration.
Edwanike Harbour, Ph.D. (University of Wisconsin-Madison)
Interests include: Anxiety, depression, interpersonal issues, relationships, multiculturalism and diversity, couples, eating disorders, ADHD, grief and loss, social identity issues, dating and domestic violence, academic stress, higher education administration, and relaxation techniques.
Victoria Hays, Ph.D. (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Associate Director
- Interests include: issues that disproportionately affect women in our culture (e.g. abuse, depression, eating/body image concerns, relationships), issues of sexuality and sexual orientation, special issues of student-athletes.
- Ed Huebner, LMSW (Grand Valley State University)
- Interests include: Men's Issues, Student Athlete Issues, spirituality and religious concerns, relationship difficulties, self-harming concerns and couples counseling.
- Andrea Lawson, MSW (Colorado State University)
- Interests include: grief and loss, spirituality, eating disorders and body image concerns, existential concerns, anxiety, identity development, women's issues, and working with survivors of sexual assault.
- Durriya Meer Psy.D. (Wright State University)
- Interests include: multicultural counseling, women's issues, violence against women (esp. South Asian women), Asian-American concerns, international student concerns, couples and relationships and family-of-origin concerns. She is fluent in Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, and Gujarati.
- Laura Monschau, Ph.D. (Pacific Graduate School of Psychology)
- Interests include: women's issues, trauma, sexualized violence (sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, stalking, sexual harassment, childhood sexual assault), issues of sexuality and sexual orientation, anxiety and depression concerns.
- Tom Morson, LMSW, ACSW (University of Michigan), Assistant Director of Social Work Training
- Interests include: family, multicultural and spiritual influences on identity development, issues of gender, class, sexuality and sexual orientation, couples work.
- Sharon Mudd, APRN, BC, NP (University of Michigan)
- Interests include: evaluation and treatment of depression, anxiety and other psychiatric/mental health disorders, medication management, interpersonal and cognitive behavioral therapy strategies to cope with psychiatric illness, gender and multicultural issues related to diagnosis and medication management.
- Sandra P. Piedrahita, Ph.D. (Southern Illinios University Carbondale), Coordinator of Large Scale Crisis Response Services
- Interests include: enhancing the psychological well-being of college students, attending to experiences related to race, ethnicity, and SES, helping students improve relationships, and treating anxiety, depression, and adjustment disorders. She is fluent in Spanish.
- IIona Phillips, LMSW (The Ohio State University), Coordinator of Alcohol/Other Drug Services
- Interests include: substance abuse, addictions and compulsive behaviors (i.e. compulsive gambling, sexual compulsivity), eating and body image concerns, anxiety, cross cultural adjustment concerns and relationship concerns. She is fluent in Czech.

- Interests include: relationship difficulties and concerns, sexual orientation concerns, gender identity concerns, family of origin issues, chronic illness concerns, spirituality concerns, grief and loss.
- Mark Sampson, Ph.D. (The Ohio State University)
- Interests include: self-esteem and identity issues, adjustment issues, sexual orientation issues, relationship issues, couple's counseling, body image issues, career decision-making, depression management, and sexual health issues.
- Todd Sevig, Ph.D. (The Ohio State University), Director
- Interests include: anxiety and depressive disorders, concerns of graduate students working on their dissertation, spiritual/meaning of life/existential issues (all of these within the context of multicultural counseling).
- Jessica Zimmerman, M.D. (Wayne State University School of Medicine)
- Interests include: Evaluation and treatment of mood disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder and ADHD including medication management and psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, and family of origin issues.
