Agency Overview

Mission

Our mission is to foster the psychological development and emotional well-being of students through short-term counseling and psychotherapy, preventive and educational programming, consultation and outreach, as well as contributions to the mental health professions. In collaboration with students, schools, colleges and other units, CAPS strives to develop a diverse, inclusive and multicultural community.

Setting

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is located on the third floor of the Michigan Union, on the central campus of the University of Michigan (http://www.umich.edu). The University has approximately 36,500 undergraduates and graduate students enrolled at the main campus in Ann Arbor, with students of color comprising 25% of our total enrollment and of students seeking CAPS services.

Ann Arbor ("Tree Town") is a beautiful and vibrant community offering a multitude of cultural and recreational opportunities both on campus and off. In addition, the city is close to Detroit, and is within extended weekend visiting distance from Chicago and Toronto.
