The Coalition of Asian Pacific American Social Work Students (CASWS)

 

A Professional/Academic/Mutual Support Group

CASWS is a professional/academic organization, which also provides mutual support to get through the classes and practicum in the school.

Membership is open to ALL students in the School of Social Work

Our membership is not limited to Asian Pacific American students or Asian Pacific international students. Anybody who is interested in the application of social work practice to Asian Pacific American populations and/or by Asian Pacific/multicultural social workers is welcome.

The main goals of CASWS include:

o      Helping members to integrate their social work education in the U.S. to Asian Pacific American culture, so as to maximize their learning as social work students.

o      Facilitating social work students and faculty members to understand and explore the application of social work practice to Asian Pacific culture.

o      Providing support to social work students.

o      Contributing as a group to the School of Social Work at the University of Michigan.

Past activities have included:

Discussing Asian Pacific/multicultural social work issues; presenting guest speakers; providing educational materials regarding the Asian Pacific population; collaborating with Asian Pacific/non-Asian Pacific groups on projects; volunteering; socializing.
