Mentorship
First year students
live among upper level students (mostly sophomores) who share
similar interests and provide peer guidance and support. Each
first year student is assigned a Cheever Peer Mentor who can assist
with the transition to the University. However, all Cheever
students act as informal mentors as well. Alumnae are also
actively involved in program activities and serve as mentors to
current students in Cheever.
Leadership Opportunities
The Cheever Program welcomes student input and encourages participants to initiate activities that interest them.
First year students are required to serve on one of Cheever's
student committees: Cultured Cosmopolitans, Current Events,
Community Service, Health and Wellness, Online Media, or Print
Media. Each committee is responsible for doing at least one
activity per month--culture nights, current events discussions,
community service opportunities, stress-relieving activities,
international movie nights, and a newsletter, respectively.
Upper level students serve as leaders for these committees, but may
also assume leadership responsibilities through serving on the
Programming Board, which oversees the committee work, works to
promote Cheever's name across campus, and collaborates with the
alumnae. Upper level students may also act as a Peer Mentor.
Cheever students also have opportunities to act as student
recruiters for the Cheever Program in the Winter Semester and of
course, may always become involved with the Barbour/Newberry hall
and multicultural councils.
Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded annually to Cheever Program residents who wish to return to the program for a consecutive year. Amounts awarded vary each year and depend on the number of qualified applicants and available funds. Award recipients are selected based on
an interview with the Cheever Society alumnae, academic achievement and goals, financial need, and level of participation in the Cheever Program.
Scholarship application materials are available during
Fall Semester, interviews are typically conducted in November, and
awards are announced in December. Click here for details.
