Positions Available

Postdoctoral fellow positions are available. We seek highly motivated and dedicated individuals to participate in our study on mechanisms of B cell responses to viral-like particulate antigens.  The Cheng lab has pioneered the biochemical synthesis of particulate antigens that resemble both the qualitative and quantitative features of enveloped viruses.  We are using these particulates as model antigens to investigate how they activate B cells to turn on antibody production, and how the affinity and duration of antibodies together with memory B cell responses may be modulated by the individual as well as collective attributes of these antigens.  The outcome from this study is expected to lay foundations for the design of next-generation antiviral vaccines.  As part of this position, the candidate is expected to learn and master our technique in biochemical synthesis of viral-like antigens, and use these antigens to carry out in-depth immunological and mechanistic studies.

The candidate is expected to have a solid background in immunology or other related quantitative science. The successful candidate is expected to use quantitative and analytical skills to advantage, and pay attention to details. Individuals who are interested in this position should send a cover letter, stating their career objectives and research interests, together with their CV, including names & contact details of three references to Prof. Cheng at chengwe@umich.edu, and indicate "Postdoc Application" in the subject of their emails. University of Michigan and Ann Arbor

The University of Michigan is internationally renowned for its excellent academics. The College of Pharmacy, created in 1876, was the first school of pharmacy established in a state university, and we have been ranked consistently among top five in the United States for the past decade. The University is located in Ann Arbor, a city with culturally diverse community and many fine restaurants. Convenient access to major international airport from the campus is just 30 minutes away. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is located at the center of the Ann Arbor campus, with convenient walking distance to Life Sciences Institute, Biological Sciences, and University of Michigan Medical School, therefore ideally suited for the development of interdisciplinary research programs.
