Rosa Angulo, Ph.D.
Research Associate Professor, CHGD;
Professor, Division of Kinesiology
Faculty Member, Center for Human Motor Research
,
Faculty Member, Center for Motor Behavior and Pediatric Disabilities (CMBPD)

Angulo is a behavioral developmentalist working in the field of movement in infant and children populations with and without developmental problems. Her contributions have been to the advancement of the knowledge in motor skill acquisition in relation to environmental, nutritional, and genetic factors.

Her research interest focuses on understanding how different extrinsic and intrinsic factors cooperate to facilitate motor skill acquisition and improvement in sensorimotor performance. She is particularly interested in looking at individual differences and early intervention programs to improve functional motor behaviors. Currently, she uses biofeedback and mechanical techniques to improve pre-locomotor leg movements in infants to enhance walking onset and adaptation. In addition, she examines the effects of iron deficiency on motor behavior across the lifespan.

Other current research includes:
(1) looking at the effects of treadmill training on motor activity in infants with Down syndrome and at risk for Cerebral Palsy;
(2) investigating the effects of context and training on infants and children's locomotion patterns;
(3) examining the effects of iron deficiency in infants' and children's motor activity; and
(4) examining the relationships between sensorimotor and affective behavior.
