Course Development

No one can underestimate the importance of language competency in the context of global business. To improve America's competitiveness in the global marketplace, language instruction must become a priority, particularly at the college level. Proficiency in foreign languages is not only essential for those seeking careers in international business, but it also enriches American culture and quality of life.

Achieving a high level of proficiency, however, requires both comprehensive course materials and talented instructors. To support that effort, CIBE awards grants for the development of new business-content language course materials.

If you are a member of the University of Michigan faculty, you can apply to CIBE for funding to develop new course materials or workshops in any language area. Coursework must have a practical rather than literary focus and be relevant to international business. Awards ranging from $2,000 to $5,000 are given to faculty on a case-by-case basis.
