Social Impact Programming

CIBER supports a wide range of research studies, internships, and consulting projects involving students and faculty from University of Michigan schools and colleges. MBA students have joined this global effort and, at the same time, gained valuable experience in social entrepreneurship and social-impact management, by taking part in CIBER-sponsored group projects organized through the Ross School's MAP (International Multidisciplinary Action Project) program.
As an example, one MAP team comprising six students traveled to Washington, D.C., and six developing nations in an effort to identify micro-finance institutions willing to provide small loans and other financial services to low-income populations. In another project, students from engineering, business and public health helped to establish health-care clinics in Bangladesh garment factories. They also collected data on workers' health, measured productivity changes in factories and provided consulting services to local non-governmental organizations (NGOs). |
CIBER also sponsors graduate student summer internships. Most recently, our efforts have focused on NGO's in Bangladesh, in cooperation with the University's President's Advisory Committee on Labor Standards and Human Rights. These positions are open to graduate students in public policy, law, business, public health, social work, and natural resources/environment.
