Dissimulate This is one of the most remarkable statements in the whole text. Tiberius was constantly accused of dissimulation, and here, in a document that he composed himself he is explicitly saying that he is not dissimulating. The syntax in Latin is about as tortured as Latin syntax can be, and is plainly a direct quotation from Tiberius, who also had a reputation for writing in such an obscure way that it was virtually impossible to understand him.
