Courseware
The
Department of Classical Studies is beginning to create and offer
courseware for various undergraduate courses using Worldwide Web
resources located at the department itself and around the world.
Some
external sites like the Perseus
Project
have been incorporated into the department's resources. Others
are presented to the students as supplementary resources.
Resources
created within the department include:
- translations
of dozens of ancient documents, organized by topic
- a
series of clickable timelines
- an
encyclopedia of ancient topics
- a
series of Latin exercises
Course
homepages also contain links to instructor information, syllabi
and assignments.
All
department textual resources have been written in our own standard
generalized mark-up language. This allows us to change the software
used to access the texts without the tedious work of re-editing
and reformatting the documents. For example, the courseware moved
this year from Hypercard to the web without any changes having
to be made to the texts themselves.
