Finding Solutions for Growing Businesses


MISSION

The mission of the Washtenaw Small Business Development Center is to contribute to the growth and vitality of the local economy by helping new and existing small businesses manage growth, improve profitability and create jobs.

PARTNERSHIPS

The Center is a Washtenaw Community College Outreach Program in cooperation with the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Area Chambers of Commerce, the Michigan Technology Council, Washtenaw Development Council, Eastern Michigan University and CoNDUIT project where technologies developed in the federal laboratories and state universities are transferred to the private sector. Small business databases, digital libraries, simulation programs and multi-media services are all part of the CoNDUIT project.

  • WCC BUSINESS FACULTY AND STUDENTS: The WSBDC collaborates with WCC business faculty to match clients with students (i.e. business plans, research). Professional faculty members also volunteer counseling time to the Center.

  • CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS FOR ENTREPRENEURS: The Center is a co-sponsor of the WCC program designed especially for the needs of the entrepreneurs. The program's seminars are held at the WCC main campus and at the Ann Arbor Area Chamber of Commerce.

  • CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SEMINARS: The WSBDC co-sponsors seminars with local chambers of commerce. The Center recently co-sponsored a Limited Liability Company Act seminar with the Ann Arbor Chamber and participated in Putting the Pieces Together seminar with the Ypsilanti Chamber.

  • WNET PROGRAM: THE WSBDC is developing a county-wide Women's Network for Entrepreneurial Training (WNET) program in cooperation with the Ypsilanti Chamber of Commerce's Women's Council and the SBA.

  • SCHOOL-TO-WORK TRANSITION WORKSHOP: The Center is a co-sponsor of a workshop, targeted at high school juniors and seniors, designed to teach young people the skills, knowledge, and behaviors necessary to a successful employee in today's work force. This program is co-Sponsored by the Washtenaw Education-Work Consortium, the Washtenaw County Council of Chambers, and local school districts.
