The CSCAR Guide to Installing and/or Renewing SPSS
16.0 for Macintosh
Minimum System Requirements:
* Operating system
- Apple Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or 10.5
(Leopard)
* Hardware
- PowerPC or Intel processor
- RAM: 512MB RAM; 1GB recommended
- 800 MB of available hard-disk space
- CD-ROM drive
- Super VGA (800x600) or a
higher-resolution monitor
* Software
- SafariT 1.3.1 or higher, Mozilla
Firefox 1.5 or higher, or Netscape 7.2 or
higher
- Java Standard Edition 5.0 (J2SE 5.0)
Installation
Instructions:
- To install SPSS 16.0 for the
Macintosh you need to log in to the
machine using an account that has
"administrator" privilege.
- You will
also need an active Internet
connection to complete the licensing
process.
- SPSS 16 for the Macintosh is
distributed on CD-ROM. When you insert
the "Installation" CD and open it (by
double-clicking) you should see
something similar to the image below.
 - Double Click on the SPSS
installation icon, you will see a
dialog similar to the one shown below.
You will need to provide the password
(or name AND password) for an account
on the Macintosh with "administrator"
privilege.
 - Click "OK" button to proceed to the
next step. Select "Site license"
option.
- Accept the license agreement.
- In the next dialog, enter your
name, "University of Michigan" (the
organization), and the serial number
(which you should receive in the email
from ITCS license office).
- Click "continue" to proceed. In
the next step you may select the
folder to install SPSS files.
- Click "Continue" and SPSS will start
installing the program. You will see
the following dialog when the
installation is over.
- If your choose to register with SPSS
website, SPSS will start the
authorization wizard in the next step.
Please continue the steps under
"Renewing procedure".
Renewing procedure:
To renew your SPSS, make sure you have
active Internet access and the license
code from ITCS licensing office.
- Click "Next" to proceed.
- Click "Next" to exit the
overview. Enter the authorization
code that you received from ITCS.

Usually you should use the "Internet"
option. Please make sure you have active
Internet connection so that the
authorization wizard can access SPSS
licensing server.

A green check indicates everything is
OK. Otherwise you should see error
messages.

during this step, please contact
spss.help@umich.edu. Make sure to
include the error messages you saw in
this step.
