This two-day session will provide a complete introduction to the principles of manipulating and displaying spatial data with ArcGIS, the leading software package for the input, processing, integration, and presentation of geospatial data. The University of Michigan holds a site license for this software suite, offering it free to all faculty, staff and students on-campus. The workshop is designed for anyone interested in research using spatial data and GIS techniques.

- Getting data into ArcGIS.
- Displaying layers.
- Working with tables.
- Labeling features.
- Querying layers.
- Geoprocessing.
- Spatial analysis -- buffering and overlays.
- Map projections.
- Spatial data types -- vector and raster.
- Geodatabases.
- Creating and editing geodata and attributes.
- Making and printing maps.

Prerequisite: Familiarity with the use of Windows operating systems. Some ArcGIS experience would be helpful, but is not required.

Fee: Registration until March 12, 2012:
