Exploratory Factor Analysis and Related Techniques

This and the companion workshop (Logistic Regression and Related Techniques on May 3) are designed to teach participants a) about the logical and statistical basis for a set of techniques and b) how to carry out analyses using statistical software SPSS. Participants may register for one or both days.
Exploratory Factor Analysis and Related Techniques introduces factor analysis. In addition, four related techniques are introduced: non-metric multidimensional scaling, cluster analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and reliability analysis. The workshop includes hands-on computer work for each technique except confirmatory factor analysis. .
- Instructors
- Laura Klem is a consultant with CSCAR. Her CSCAR responsibilities include consulting on path analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation models with latent variables, factor analysis, multidimensional scaling, and cluster analysis.
- Audience
- Researchers in applied fields who want to summarize the relationships among sets of variables. The techniques introduced in this wokshop are often used as a preliminary to scale construction in the social sciences.
- Prerequisite
- Introductory statistics, basic experience using SPSS for Windows is recommended.
- Provisions
- Enrollees receive lecture notes, a bibliography, and example computer package commands and output. Morning refreshments provided. Break time for lunch (lunch not provided).
