This and the companion workshop (Multivariate Techniques - Data Reduction) are designed to teach participants a) about the logical and statistical basis for a set of techniques and b) how to carry out analyses using statistical software
SPSS. The workshop includes a morning lecture and
hands-on computer work. Participants may register for one or both days.
Multivariate Techniques: Logistic Regression and Related Techniques (Instructors: Ed Rothman and Brady
West) introduces
logistic regression and similar related
techniques, including ordinal logistic
regression and multinomial logistic regression.
Instructors:
Ed Rothman is the Director of CSCAR, and has been a
professor in the Department of Statistics at The University of Michigan
since 1969. He has had extensive experience as a statistical consultant
in studies both on and off campus, with particular attention to
discriminant analysis, categorical data analysis, logistic regression,
log-linear analysis, factor analysis, time series analysis, and many other
methods.
Brady West is the primary SPSS consultant at CSCAR. His CSCAR responsibilities include consulting on linear and logistic regression and related techniques.
Audience:
Researchers in applied fields who may encounter data
suitable for multivariate techniques.
Prerequisite:
Introductory statistics, basic experience using SPSS for Windows recommended.
Provisions:
Enrollees receive lecture notes, a bibliography, and
example computer package commands and output. Morning refreshments
provided. Break time for lunch (lunch not provided); many restaurants
nearby.
