Introduction to SAS

A CSCAR Workshop

Center for Statistical Consultation and Research, The University of Michigan


Six 3.5-hour sessions Tuesdays and Thursdays
July 18 - August 3, 2006


Note: Topic order is subject to change. Participants must sign up for all sessions.

Fundamentals: Introduces the SAS for Windows environment, creating and submitting command files, printing output and simple trouble shooting techniques. How to read in raw data from different types of raw data files.

Transformations and Recodes: Introduces the use of SAS to create new variables, recoding continuous variables into categories, creating dummy variables, missing values and dates in SAS.

Data Management: How to create and use permanent SAS datasets, basics of how to combine SAS data sets, both to add cases and to add variables.

Importing Data: Introduces the basics of importing data from other programs, such as Excel, Access and SPSS into SAS. Guidelines for preparing data for use with other programs.


Instructor:

Lingling Zhang, SAS Consultant for CSCAR. Other CSCAR staff may assist in workshop.

Audience:

New SAS users who will be using SAS on Windows, or other platforms. Those planning to use SAS for Macintosh should contact the instructor at ggling@umich.edu before enrolling in the workshop.

Prerequisite:

A Windows instruction class or equivalent knowledge.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, six sessions July 18, 20, 25, 27, August 1 and 3, 2006

Duderstadt Center, North Campus, Computer Training Room 2

Size:

Maximum of 21 participants.

Fee:

Registration until July 3, 2006:

$350 for University of Michigan affiliated faculty, staff and students; $800 for others

Registration after July 3, 2006:

$420 for University of Michigan affiliated faculty, staff and students; $960 for others
