Exploring Spatial Statistics in GIS
October 27, 2009
Edward Rothman and Danielle Gwinn
This one-day session will provide a complete introduction to the principles and methods of spatial statistics using ArcGIS, a leading software package for working with geospatial data, and Geoda, a free software program designed to implement techniques for exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA) on geographic data (points and polygons). Participants will learn how to use spatial statistics tools included with ArcGIS 9 and Geoda to explore and measure spatial processes, distributions, and relationships. Topics and demonstrations include spatial statistical theories and techniques such as spatial autocorrelation, interpolation, geostatistics, measuring geographic distributions, cluster and hot spot analysis and spatial regression. The workshop includes lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises using the spatial statistics tools with the latest ArcGIS and Geoda software packages.
