Oh how sad--I didn't know Bill had died. What a great man he
was. I really enjoyed the class I took with the two of you.
Debbie Carr |
Unfortunately I will be unable to attend. I will be out of the
country and unable to be there. Please give my best regards to Dr.
Drake's extended community.
Brent Plater |
sorry won't make it [from Cardiff].
Andrea Frank |
Unfortunately I think I will be out of town on travel, but please keep
me posted in case my schedule changes.
Noah Hall |
I'll be there, for sure. Thanks.
Moira Zellner |
I really appreciate hearing from you again. I didn't know about
Pr Bill Drake passing away until quite recently (some time at the beginning
of this year). It's really sad. That was when I tried to make contact again.
But I'm also glad to get in touch with you, too. I enjoyed that class,
so much that I happened to implement the idea I put on (Pr Drake encouraged
me to, as well, at the end of the class). Now, I founded an NGO that will
work (soon) with the Malagasy authorities. I look forward to
seeing you and everybody again, and to sharing memories and thoughts to
honor Bill.
Allain Rasolofoson |
I am very sorry to hear about Bill. ...I think it's wonderful that
you are organizing a sort of memorial for him. I know it's not likely I
will be able to attend just because I have four children and work
part time in research. I have to choose carefully what I can do since most
of my time revolves around my kids. Thanks very much and I hope you
are doing well!
Tatiana Bailey |
I am just learning of Bill Drake's passing through your email.
As you may know I now reside in Canada where I also completed my doctorate.
I am very sorry about Dr. Drake's death. I remember him as a warm
and very kind person with keen interest in his students and their individual
needs. It is truly a big loss for SNRE community and many of us with
interest in environmental issues.
Alice Nabalamba |
...great to hear from you and to receive the invite to the ceremony.
Did I ever mention that I was having a baby? I had a boy on May 15th...l.
He is wonderful and keeping me very busy. All this to say that I
am not sure I will make it to the ceremony but I will check my schedule.
My dad still lives in Detroit so I could visit him too. It is wonderful
that something is being dedicated in his honor. I have very fond
memories of Bill. He was a kind, knowledgeable and very approachable
professor. I really enjoyed the course with you both (often recommending
it to fellow graduate students). Our final presentations at Bill's
house were not only a great learning experience but also presented a nice
personal touch to a graduate seminar. I know Bill is deeply
missed by the university as well as former graduate students. The
Drake Room Memorial is a wonderful way to preserve all he has done for
the school. How are you doing this term? If I can make it out
to Michigan I will let you know.
Ros Scaff |
I am glad you are organizing this event to remember Bill. I am
sorry I won't be able to attend. I will be away at the Community
Food Security Coalition Conference until Monday night, in Milwaukee.
Thanks,
Kami Pothukuchi |
Sorry I will not be able to travel to Ann Arbor from Philadelphia.
I have very fond memories of the pop-dynamics course and time spent at
Bill's home. He also loaned me a journal that he kept while traveling
in Russia, which gave me a good idea of what to expect when i eventually
did my fieldwork there. I'm sure the ceremony will be a wonderful
event. Thanks for including
me in the announcements. Seema Iyer |
Looks like I won't be able to make it next week to the dedication.
This is a wonderful idea to honor Bill. I wish I could be there but
it seems to be quite a week for events...
Rhonda Ryznar |
I'm definitely planning to be there and have asked the recipients of
our two joint Arb/SNRE awards this year to come--Bill Bennett (Drake Prize)
and Jana Vanderhaar (LaCross Prize). I've also sent this to Joan
Wolf our development director at the Arb to share with some of our board
members who worked closely with Bill. Thanks so much in your help
in making this happen.
Bob Grese |
I am delighted to see that there will be a lasting memorial to Bill
Drake. I was most impressed with his dedication to CSF when I visited Ann
Arbor several years ago. It is people like him that enrich one's own life
and I am sorry that I will be travelling in mid-October.
Doug Daniels |
What a great tribute to Bill! A perfect memorial to a guy that
dedicated his life to education and research. It is still hard to realize
that he isn't around to brighten a meeting or just a friendly get together
like an evening playing poker with colleagues. I think of him often,
especially when encountering a biker on one of the many bike trails here
in the Charlevoix area. Unfortunately, we will not be able to attend
the ceremony due to a field trip to the upper Amazon. Best Wishes
for a successful ceremony
Ken Polakowski |
I will be there
Bob Marans |
Thanks--I'll try to be there, at least for part of it.
Jerry Lax |
I plan to attend CSF's Bill Drake Memorial at the Dana Building on
Oct. 18. Thanks,
Joan Wolf |
I regret that I will not be able to attend. I recently returned to
Jakarta from a brief vacation at home in Boston. In fact, I passed by the
Australian Embassy from the airport a few minutes before
the explosion. Katie is attending a new school in the Back Bay of Boston so we have sold our house and Barbara and Katie have moved to an apartment. We are just completing a proposal for a bilateral agreement here.... Fingers crossed, Rob Timmons |
Thank you for your messages. I'm sorry we can't come to Ann Arbor for
the dedication. Many thanks,
Barbara Timmons |
Thank you for the invitation. I am pretty much stuck in Ecuador
so will not be able to make it. Please give my regards to Dean Wilson
and any others from the mid-70s.
David Nelson |
Sorry I can't make it. Regards to all,
Richard Paullin |
I will try to make it!
Peter Rycus |
I am unsure whether I will be able to attend. Thanks for the
invitation.
John R. Bassett |
I will not be attending the Drake Room Memorial Dedication ceremony.
Best wishes to you and your colleagues at CSF!
Bob Holmberg |
Although we would love to join you, neither Dani nor I will be able
to attend the dedication ceremony. However, we will be there with
you all in spirit to celebrate Bill's memory and how he deeply touched
all of our lives.
Warmest wishes to all, Peter and Dani Fajans |
Thank you so much for send this message to me, knowing it's less possible
that I can attend... I wish this ceremony for Bill a successful one!
Ming-Hui Hsieh |
It would have been nice to be there - its just about a year since the last CSF meeting and I would have liked to see everybody and see what the progress (or various ) have been. Best wishes, Astrid Hillers |
I teach till 2 pm here at MSU. As soon as I can I will leave
and join you.
Antoinette Winkler-Prins |
I remember Bill Drake as being enthusiastic and excited about any thing
he was doing...being it riding his bicycle or on his way to India. His
loss will be felt by all who knew him!
Alma Lach |
Thank-you very much for your kind letter and invitation. I am
very pleased that Alma Lach has chosen to make a contribution in my husband's
memory. Your foundation's work is certainly impressive, and I am
sure that my husband would be pleased to be associated with it. I
wish I could join you for the dedication of the Drake Memorial Room.
I am sure it will be a lovely occasion. Unfortunately I am teaching
on the 18th, and I could not make it to Ann Arbor in time to help you celebrate.
I am confident that Sandy Arlinghaus will give me a report of the festivities.
Thank-you again and please accept my best wishes for the success of your
work.
Katy O'Brien Weintraub |
I will try to to see you all for the dedication.
Kent Whiteman |
If you think of something, as the event approaches, that you need help
with, please let me know. I may be able to be more available on the day
of the event, if that would be helpful.
Looking forward to seeing everyone! Cathy Antonakos |
I am so involved here with the gift that Bill left to the Museum in
Grand Haven - setting it up the way he wanted it. Had a wonderful trip
with the Drakes to Ecuador this year and excited about their Family Reunion
here in Grand Haven next summer. Life is never dull around here. Bill still
is a big part of my life and living in my heart. I believe he always will.
Looking forward to seeing you and all the CSF folks in October. If I can
help in any way with the reception do let me know.
Betty Kammeraad |
I am looking at my schedule and seeing if can make it. Not sure yet.
Thank you so much for informing me and thinking of Dad.
Chuck Drake |
I'll plan on being there.
Charlie Drake |
