A number of these strips came from the collection of Zeke Zekley, George McManus' assistant of 20 years. Zekley passed away peacefully on April 28, 2005 at the age of 90. Mr. Zekely’s family has asked David Fortman (co-publisher and designer of "Hogan's Alley") to continue selling Mr. Zekley’s collection of original BUF strips, which is rapidly depleting. Zekley was the last direct link to McManus. From David Fortman: Zeke was very generous and treated me like a son. His own son, who was a bit older than me, passed away in 1996. I knew Zeke the last 30 years of his life. He was the same age as my own father who passed away in 1999, so it was a wonderful relationship, both personal and professional. The family honored me by asking me to be a pall-bearer and they want to give me Zeke's drawing table, the same one he used when he sat across McManus in their studio in Beverly Hills. I miss him dearly. He loved the money the originals pulled in.
