The CSIE Community

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

A sentence in the faculty area refers to the "virtual department."

Because we can communicate quickly and across large distances in a nearly conversational way, the local department carries less of the responsibility for professional development. This is only good for one aspect of a faculty member's life, namely, his or her self-directed benefit. Work directed towards the benefit of the institution, including the professional development of one's students (part of the "school" in graduate school), is increasingly seen by some as an optional and wholly altrusitic aspect of the faculty member's life.

From this context, an emerging class of faculty whose interests are centered on education (pedagogy and research) is populating chemistry departments around the country. Who are these people? What sorts of positions do they have? What sorts of backgrounds?

In this area, we propose to construct as complete a list as possible of who are the caretakers of CSIE who are situated in chemistry departments.
